Statistically
Did you know that doing what you love adds years to your life? You have the potential to be healthier just by living out your purpose!! So, let’s find out what we love because it’s so important!
For the sake of civility
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged and there is a real reason for that. Plain and simple, the material became too heavy. Reading police reports and printing massive documents from my mother’s case left me feeling on edge. Additionally, I took a full-time position believing it was where I was supposed to be find out it was NOT. I also learned a few valuable lessons about people and the workforce, particularly in the church. I’ll leave it at that for the sake of civility.
The pursuit gives life
As I backed off from writing the book, I did some soul-searching and came to the conclusion I will never be complete or finished as long as I’m breathing and I determined that, that was a good thing! If were not evolving and continually growing than were dying. I’ve decided to focus more on what I love and pursue that. I really think success and satisfaction doesn’t come from the bottom line but from authenticity and the pursuit of what YOU love. Not what your husband, friends, kids, or social media icons love but what YOU love.
Who cares what everyone else loves
I love watching Murder She Wrote- guarantee none of my friends do. I’d rather be at home than anywhere in the world and I really don’t hold traveling abroad high on my list of hobbies. Most people I know would never say that staying home is better than traveling. I let my children watch and listen to things most of my friends would sensor but hey…. who cares. That’s the beauty of being authentic and living the life that is best for you and your immediate family.
Unload the load
So you may be wondering, “what do I love to do.” That is so normal. I have a friend who told me after she divorced she went to the grocery store and at the check-out line looked in her cart and realized she didn’t like half of the items in there. It was what her husband liked. She happily unloaded her load and went about her business. I’m just learning what I really love and like and more importantly what I don’t. I’m also becoming more selective with who I spend my time with. Time is one of the most precious things that money can’t buy and we will never get back. Who we love and who spend our time with is a DIRECT reflection of ourselves. Additionally, there is a reason we like what we like and why our senses respond to specific sounds, views, smells, activities, and personalities.
5 Questions to ask yourself to learn what you love
- What do I like to watch and read? This is in regards to books, magazines and movie/T.V. genre
- If you have social media accounts, think about which accounts you enjoy following and why- Is it fashion, home décor, charity driven, animals, business, etc.
- Reflect on jobs you’ve had and think about what you liked and disliked as well as what you felt most comfortable doing. Also, did you receive any awards or accolades for a job well done. If so or if not, how did you respond to it.
- What are you doing in your life (professionally and/or personally) and do you hope to be doing these 5-10 years from now?
- Who do you spend most of your time with? What are they like and what do they add to your life and just as important, what do you add to their life?
Really scrubbing these areas of your life, you’ll see who you are and what you stand for. I am obsessed with anything home, (décor, coziness, comfort, food, and the people I share it with.) I also feel most myself when I’m encouraging other women and I LOVE living a driven life.
Take the car, take the flights, take the jewels. I want to be home.
Update* I want to start traveling more but my favorite place is still home.
