For 17 years I’ve had my mom’s tea cups boxed up. Mostly because… well just because. Does anyone really drink tea out of traditional, floral patterned china?
But this year is different. I decided to break them out and have a modern tea party with one traditional piece and I did it in true Mindy Fashion; tasty, simple, and meaningful.
Tasty + Simple
I’m serving three different drinks (teas)- London Fog, Chai, and a Raspberry Limeade. A London Fog is my new afternoon pick-me-up. I’m completely obsessed. Its smooth flavor with a touch of vanilla and hint of sweetness is just so good.
My menu was a cinch– all desserts are pre-made bought from Target, Panera, and World Market. The sandwiches are even easier. I made cucumber and herb cream cheese triangles and egg salad sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls. I even used peeled, hard boiled eggs from Costco. It doesn’t get easier than this!
Modern tea party with one traditional piece
I’m so lucky to have lots of good, fun friends but I thought for it to be truly meaningful, the smaller the crowd the better. So, my two family friends and their mom are coming over. All the girls will get to tell their mom at least one thing that’s made the biggest impact and the little girls will get the mic too! One chair will be empty to represent my mom and all moms that aren’t here.
The most meaningful piece is her cups that she NEVER used, only collected. These are the center and reason for this modern tea party. I hope every sip we take is a quench to our soul.
Here are some images I grabbed for inspiration for my next tea party. I really love the clear glass and gold accesories.

If there is One Thing that would make your Mom feel special this year; get it, do it, be it. It’s worth more than hundreds of dollars on items that won’t create memories. And remember, you can take any old thing and add something new (or don’t) to have a modern feel to a traditional piece.
Happy Mothers Day Be-you-tea-ful!
I love setting a ‘sweet spot’ for moms that are no longer with us. Happy (almost) Mother’s Day!
Happy Mother’s Day! Love the ideas and inspiration you shared!
Love the idea of just making Mom feel special! I’ve put it into words for her so she can read them and I hope that makes her feel special this year.
Yes, so important.
You always have the most fun and creative ideas, Mindy! I love sentimental treasures from loved ones that keep the memories alive and possibility going for new traditions. I hope your Mother’s Day was as special as you, sweet lady! XO
