Dear Mindy,
I just moved into a new neighborhood and would love to get to know my neighbors, any suggestions?

Dear Neighbor,
Moving into a new neighborhood is exciting and uncertain at the same time. Most people, like you, don’t know who their neighbors are and that means it’s a great opportunity to make new friends. One thing I loathe the most is uninvited guests. It could be that I’m normally braless but in any case I just don’t like it so here are three ways to get to know your neighbors without being an annoying uninvited guest:
Don’t Rush Inside
We are all so busy to pull in our garages after a busy day but take time to slow down, give a shout out the window and introduce yourself. Chances are you’ve already seen them working in the yard or with the kids playing outside so take some time to be outside of your home.
Get Involved
Go online and look for Facebook groups, Mom groups (if you’re a mom), or neighborhood events. If one does exist, hop onto one of the pages and introduce yourself. The HOA website is a great resource too. Attend a meeting and even join the board if you’re so inclined.
Host a block party or initiate a neighborhood watch.
Instead of showing up at someone’s door unannounced (eek) empty handed, come with an idea and see if they’re interested. If they’re not interested, stay as far away as possible from them because they’re probably mean people. I’m just kidding. Your efforts will eventually land you into a new friendship and at the very least, you know your neighbors and they know you.
*There are so many ways to meet people; all you have to do is do it.
